What is CLASH?

CLASH is our own twist on tic tac toe, for two to four players. Instead of taking turns, everyone picks a square at the same time, in secret, and all the marks appear together. Pick the same square as someone else and it cracks — nobody gets it.

That one change turns a game you can solve into a game of reading people. In classic tic tac toe you see your opponent's move and answer it. In CLASH you can't wait and react: you have to predict where everyone is going — and guess whether they're predicting you. Think Connect 4's four-in-a-row, played like rock, paper, scissors.

How to play

  1. Choose how to play. Quick CLASH drops you into a 4-player game online. Online with friends gives you a room link, so everyone plays on their own phone. Or play on one device against bots, or pass it round. Two or three players use a 5×5 board, four use 6×6.
  2. Pick in secret. Each round you have a few seconds to tap an empty square. Online, every pick is sealed until everyone has chosen; on one device, the board hides while you pass it on.
  3. Reveal. When everyone has picked, all the new marks land at once.
  4. Clash. If two or more players chose the same square, nobody gets it. It cracks and stays blocked for the next two rounds.
  5. Fade. Each player keeps at most four marks. When you place a fifth, your oldest disappears — the one that goes next is drawn faded.
  6. Win. Be first to get four in a row — across, down or diagonally. If two players complete a line in the same round, both lines shatter and the game goes on.
X and O both picked the centre. It cracked: nobody gets it for two rounds.
X's faded mark goes next. Playing the green square still makes four in a row — if nobody clashes on it.

How to win at CLASH

  • Make two threats at once. Each player can only contest one square per round, so a fork is very hard to stop.
  • Block by guessing, not reacting. The only way to stop a line is to clash on the square it needs — but a clash costs you your move too. Choose your blocks.
  • Read the obvious square. When a line needs one more square, everyone can see it. Expect a clash there, and sometimes take the other end instead.
  • Mind your fading mark. A line that relies on your oldest mark breaks the moment you move.
  • Let others fight. With three or four players, when two of them clash over the same threat, the rest get a free move.

Questions people ask

What is CLASH tic tac toe?

A version of tic tac toe for two to four players where everyone moves at the same time. All picks are revealed together, and a square chosen by more than one player cracks, so nobody gets it.

How do you block in CLASH?

By clashing: pick the square your opponent needs at the same moment they do. It cracks and stays blocked for two rounds. Guess wrong, and they complete their line.

How many players can play CLASH?

Two, three or four. Two and three players use a 5×5 board and four players use 6×6. In every game you need four in a row, and each player keeps at most four marks.

Can I play CLASH online with friends?

Yes. Choose Online with friends, send the room link, and everyone joins from their own phone or computer. Picks are sealed until everyone has chosen, so nobody can peek — not even the player hosting the room.

Who will I play in Quick CLASH?

Other players looking for a game at the same time. Quick CLASH is always a 4-player game, so any empty seats are filled by computer opponents. Everyone gets a random name, and games between strangers go through a secure relay.

Can I play CLASH on my own?

Yes. Play against one, two or three bots, or mix bots with friends sharing the same device.

Can CLASH end in a draw?

Rarely. If two players complete a line in the same round, both lines shatter and the game goes on. Only a game with no winner after 40 rounds is a draw.
