How to play with a friend
The opponent is already set to Friend: just hand the device back and forth. (Not in the same room? Play online with a friend instead.) Player 1 is X and moves first; tap any empty square to place your mark. Three in a row — across, down or diagonally — wins, and a full board with no line is a draw.
Pick Best of 3 for a proper match: first to two wins, and you swap sides every round so both players get to go first. The scoreboard keeps a running tally on this device. Bigger boards work too — 4×4, 5×5 and 6×6 all need four in a row — or switch on Fade mode, where each player keeps only three marks and the board never fills.
Settle arguments with the Coach
Leave the Coach on and every move is graded from Best to Blunder for both players, with an accuracy score for each at the end. On 3×3 the grades are exact: the Coach checks every possible continuation.
Want an edge over your friend? Open in a corner: after it, only one of the eight replies — the centre — avoids a forced loss. The rest of the playbook is in How to win at tic tac toe.
